It is not uncommon for people to be moving out of state. Many American households have moved once in the last 5 years having at least one move during that period.

Whether you are going on military deployment, trying a new job, or just looking for a change. Relocating to a new area can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be. The more organized you are with your move, the less stressful it will be.

Look for a New Place

The primary key date is the date you need to find a new place to live. It’s important to start looking for a new place well in advance of this date so you can have plenty of time to find a place that meets your needs and budget.

Declaration of Intent

It must be filed with the new state’s Secretary of State within 10 days of moving. Additionally, if you are registered to vote and have any vehicles registered in your old state, you must cancel your registration and re-register in your new state within 30 days of moving.

Give your current landlord plenty of notice that you’ll be moving out of state. Most leases require 30 days’ notice, but it’s always best to err on the side of caution and give them as much notice as possible.

Start Packing

One of the essential things to do before moving out of state is to pack everything up, you should start the packing process two to three weeks before your move-out date.

One of the packing tips is to figure out what you can live without for a few weeks and pack those items first. As the days get closer to your move, pack items that you won’t need daily.

On the day of your move, pack up your essentials in a carry-on bag so you have everything you need while the rest of your belongings are being loaded onto the moving truck. Or you can check out the packing service with movers for more convenience.

Research Moving Companies

Contact the moving company at least six weeks in advance of your move, get an estimate in writing and be sure to ask if the company offers any discounts also inform them of the date of your move.

It’s the time that they will come to your house and pack up all of your belongings. Also, inform them of the date of your delivery. The time your belongings will be delivered to your new home.

Changing of Details

You need to change your address with the post office and update your driver’s license. Give your new address to utility companies and set up a service at your new home.

Cancel any memberships or subscriptions you have in your old town. Notify your bank of your move and change your address with them. If you have school-aged children, enroll them in their new school district.

Moving Out of State, Moving Into New Place

This is usually the date your lease starts or the day you close on your new home. Make sure you have everything ready to go on this date so you can start enjoying your new home right away!
