7 Reasons to Visit Tanzania

Did you know that over 1.5 million tourists decided to visit Tanzania in 2018? June to October is the most popular time for tourists because it is the best time to witness the great migration of various types of species. With so much to see and do, visiting Tanzania will leave you speechless and wanting more.

If you are looking for your next vacation, then look no further than wonderful Tanzania. Read on below and find out 7 reasons to make Tanzania your next holiday destination.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Located in Northeastern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. 75,000 people climb Kilimanjaro each year, so the mountain isn’t that untouched.  The climb to the top isn’t the most arduous of climbs, but the scenery is unreal at the same time.

The mountain represents a powerful life force of the Changga people, which provides rich soil for agriculture and an endless source of fresh spring water. Most mountaineers learn the ropes at Kilimanjaro before progressing to taller mountains.

Wildebeest Migration

For animal lovers around the world, watching a million wildebeest crossing the great plains of the Serengeti is a dream come true.

Watch as wildebeest and crocodiles play in a game of cat and mouse, where the wildebeest use their strength in numbers.

Maasai People

The Maasai people are a tribe from East Africa that is known to be able to live in semi-arid and arid lands. They are well known around the world for their clothes, finding water in the toughest of terrains, and their highly energetic customs.

The tribe openly welcomes visitors, who come to experience their culture and lifestyle firsthand.

Zanzibar Island

What better way to round off wildlife viewing than to laze around and swim at some of Zanzibar’s pristine white sand beaches? The ocean is packed full of all kinds of sea life, while the island isn’t short of any water sports activities.

If scuba diving is your thing, Zanzibar is known to be one of the best dive spots around the world, with many people visiting with the sole purpose of diving at some of the amazing reefs. The waters are also packed full of sharks, so adrenaline seekers come from around the world.

Endless Safari Parks

Southern and Western Tanzania are often overlooked by travelers who are only intent on visiting the more popular parks in the North. The Southern parks of Selous and Ruaha are often a better value than Northern parks while still boasting a vast amount of wildlife.

The parks Mahale and Katavi to the West are more remote and difficult to get to. However, they do offer a unique safari and wilderness experience.

Delicious Food

Let’s face it, food can make or break any holiday, no matter how good the wildlife and beauty of the country are. Tanzania isn’t short of any delicious food. It is a mix of traditional African cuisine with a strong Arabic and Indian influence.

Surrounded by the ocean, Zanzibar and Tanzania are renowned for their world-class seafood with fish delivered fresh from the ocean. For the ultimate Tanzanian foodie experience, go to Stone Town night food market, which offers a variety of delicious meals while experiencing the local people and culture.

Wildlife and Birdlife

First and foremost, you don’t even need to be such a wildlife expert to enjoy the wildlife in Tanzania. With some of the best wildlife in the world, everybody is left in awe of how beautiful the Serengeti can be.

For the bird watchers, Tanzania has over 1000 different species for you to spot. Tanzania is exactly how people picture Africa to be.

How Safe Is It to Visit Tanzania?

Tanzania has a relatively low crime rate compared to other African nations. Crime still does exist but is concentrated around the city of Dar Es Salaam. Crime doesn’t happen much once you are out of this hot spot.

The city center can be dangerous so it must be avoided at night. The safari parks are very safe with armed guards all over the place, in case an unwanted predator should enter the camp. Otherwise, follow the orders of the game rangers and you will be fine.

How Do Visas Work in Tanzania?

People of most nations can enter Tanzania without needing a pre-arranged visa. Upon entry, you will be supplied with a tourist visa which is usually valid for 3 months. Once the visa is up, you have to exit the country and come back in.

If you want to climb Kilimanjaro, however, you will require a special permit to do so. The easiest way is to go through a tour group that will supply the permit for you and take care of the entire climb for you.

Should Zanzibar be your destination, remember the island and Tanzania are one country and follow the same set of visa rules. Should you leave the mainland, for example, you can’t fly over to Zanzibar and overstay your visa.

Visit Beautiful Tanzania!

Imagine sitting on the plains of the Serengeti and watching the sunset while you can see many different species of wildlife in the distance. With such diversity, visiting Tanzania has something for everyone and should be high on your bucket list of places to visit.

The price of the vacation doesn’t even need to break the bank, with more affordable options creeping up all the time.

Climb Africa’s highest mountain and next week watch lions hunting in their native lands. All is possible in beautiful Tanzania.
