Phone Not Working? 4 Tips to Troubleshoot a Broken Phone

Have you ever left your phone unattended only to come back and find your phone not working? Has your phone ever gotten wet and stopped working?

Cell phones are so ubiquitous that it’s easy to forget that there are dangers to leaving our devices unattended and unprotected. Not only are there dangers to leaving your phone alone, but problems happen even if you’re vigilant about maintaining it.

Don’t worry, we have got you covered. We’re going to list the most common causes of a broken phone below so that you know how to troubleshoot and get it working again.

1. Check the Battery

If your phone isn’t working, one of the first things you should do is to check the battery. If it’s not fully charged, plug it in and see if that fixes the problem. If it’s still not working, try taking the battery out and putting it back in after a few minutes.

You may also try a different charger if it helps. If none of those things work, your battery might be broken and you’ll need to buy a new one.

2. Check for Issues With the Sim Card or Network Connection

If your SIM card is damaged or not inserted properly, your phone might not be able to connect to your carrier’s network. To check your SIM card, remove it from your phone and make sure it’s not damaged or dirty.

If it looks okay, try reinserting it and restarting your phone. If that doesn’t work, try inserting a different SIM card.

The next step is to check your network connection if you’re still having trouble. Make sure you’re in an area with good cell reception.

Move to a different location, if you’re in a weak signal area. Once you’re in a good reception area, try restarting your phone. If that doesn’t work, go to your network carrier’s website and see if there are any known service outages in your area.

3. Check for Software Updates

Outdated software can cause all sorts of problems, including making your phone sluggish, causing it to crash, and preventing it from connecting to the internet.

To troubleshoot a broken phone, check for updates, open your phone’s settings app, and tap “About phone.” From there, you should see an option to check for updates. If there are any available, download and install them.

4. Check the Phone’s Hardware

Check to see if the SIM card is secure in its slot. If it is, then take a look at the SD card. Sometimes, the SD card can become dislodged, which can cause problems.

Check the charging port. If the charging port is damaged, it can prevent the phone from charging properly.

It is also advisable to have an expert who does mobile phone repairs. A brand-specific repair shop may have an idea of how it can be repaired. For Samsung users, you may bring your phone to a Samsung repair shop.

Repairing Your Broken Phone

If you have a broken phone, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue. If that doesn’t work, there may be a problem with your service provider. Contact them to see if there is an outage in your area.

If none of these solutions work, you may need to take your phone to a repair shop.
