How Does Wifi Work? The Basics Explained

Wireless Adapter

In very basic terms, a wireless adapter is a device that connects to your computer and allows it to communicate with your router. By connecting to the router with a Wi-Fi adapter, your computer can access the internet connection without having connected to the router with a cable.

Wireless adapters come in different shapes and sizes, and some adapters may also build into your computer. Wi-Fi adapter is just one of the technology used in Premier Wireless technology.

Access Point

The access point is a term used in networking that refers to a wireless device that connects other devices to a network. Wi-Fi Access Point is a device that emits wireless signals computers and other devices can pick that up with wireless adapters.

When Devices are connected to an Access Point, they can communicate with each other and with other devices on the network. Wi-Fi access points have a range of about 100 feet, although the actual range depends on factors such as the number of walls and the type of construction.

Wi-Fi Antenna

A Wi-Fi antenna is a gadget that helps the widget interface with the internet. The antenna catches the radio waves and afterward changes them into electrical signals. They then sent these signals to the electronic gadget.

The electronic gadget decodes the signal and afterward interfaces with the internet services. There are two main types of antennas: omnidirectional and directional. Omnidirectional antennas send out a signal in a 360-degree radius, while directional antennas send out a focused signal in one direction.

IP Address

When you connect a device to the router, it assigns the device an IP address. This address is a number that identifies the device on the Internet. It identifies the device on a network so that the Wi-Fi connection and data can route to the correct location.

The router sends data to the device with the corresponding IP address. The device can then communicate with other devices on the Internet.

Now that you understand the basics of how the internet works, it is easier to understand how Wi-Fi works.
