How to Measure for Bra Size for a Perfect Fit

Did you know that 70% of women wear bras that don’t fit properly? With bras being an important part of fashion, you should be certain that your bra fits correctly.

An ill-fitting bra is uncomfortable and can change the way your clothes look and fit. Measuring bra size properly is the only way to ensure that your bra will fit perfectly.

Are you not sure about your bra size measurements, or do you think you aren’t wearing the right bra size? Keep reading to find out how to measure for bra size.

How To Measure For Bra Size

In order to measure for bra size, start by putting on a bra that you already own. Don’t worry if it doesn’t fit you perfectly, but do make sure it’s comfortable.

There are two measurements you’ll need to consider: band size and bust size.

Band Size

Band size is the numerical part of bra size measurements. It indicates the size of the band that wraps around your torso.

To measure band size, take a measuring tape and wrap it around your torso directly below your breasts. Make sure the measuring tape is snug but not overly tight. Once you feel comfortable, take note of this number.

Band sizes are whole, even numbers. A measurement like 33 or 36.5 will not work.

If your measurement is a fraction, round up to the nearest whole number. If the measurement is an odd number, take note of it regardless, but keep in mind that the band size of a bra you buy will be an even number. For instance, if your band measurement is a 31, your band size will either be 30 or 32.

Bust Size

Bust size is the letter portion of bra size measurements. This letter indicates the size of the cup that supports your breasts.

To measure bust size, wrap your measuring tape around your back and note the measurement where your breasts are the largest (typically, this is around the nipple).

Like band size, bust size cannot be a fraction. So, you will round your bust measurement up to the nearest whole number.

To convert this measurement into a letter, subtract your band size from your bust size. You can find these conversions below:

  • 1-inch difference = A cup
  • 2-inch difference = B cup
  • 3-inch difference = C cup
  • 4-inch difference = D cup
  • 5-inch difference = DD cup

Though there are sizes larger than DD, larger measurements typically vary on a company-to-company basis.

Putting It All Together

Now that you have your measurements, it is time to find out the right bra size for you.

Your bra size is simply the letter and number combined. For example, if your bust size was a B and your band size was a 34, you are a 34B.

Other Things To Consider

Though measuring for bra size is simple, there are other factors to consider.

You want to also be aware of the sister sizes of your own bra size measurements. Sister sizes are different bra sizes that should still fit you.

If you go up in cup size, you should go down in band size (and vice versa) in order to find your sister size. For example, if you are a 32A, a 30B is your sister size because it is one band lower but one cup higher than your true bra size.

Choose the best bra for your needs that is made from comfortable materials. There are strapless bras, sports bras, and many other types. If you’re looking for a bra with support, comfort, and function, view this bandeau bra.

Finding A Bra

Now that you know how to measure for bra size, finding the best bra for you will be a breeze. Keep your personal preferences in mind when looking for a bra, and always know your sister sizes.
