Comedian-actor Raju Srivastava, who underwent angioplasty on Wednesday evening, is now ‘critical’ and ‘on ventilator’ in the intensive care unit (ICU).

After he was rushed to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, his fellow-comedian friend Sunil Pal confirmed he was out of danger.

However, a hospital source was quoted as saying to
PTI on Thursday, “He is critical and on a ventilator in the ICU.”

On Wednesday morning, the 58-year-old experienced chest pain and collapsed while working out on his treadmill. His team had shared that it was a ‘mild heart attack’.

After the angioplasty, a source informed
ANI that Srivastava was ‘responding to the treatment’. “He will be kept under observation for a few days before being discharged,” he was quoted as saying.

The stand-up comic, who has been in the National Capital for a week now, was in the city to meet his friends and family. His wife Shikha Srivastava reached Delhi after the incident.

Srivastava, who has had an active presence in the entertainment industry since the late 1980s, received recognition after participating in the first season of stand-up comedy show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ in 2005. He bagged the ‘The King of Comedy’ title in the reality spin-off series, ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge – Champions’.

He has appeared in Hindi films such as ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Bombay to Goa’ (remake) and ‘Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya’. He was one of the contestants on ‘Bigg Boss’ season three. He also featured in TV shows ‘Comedy Ka Maha Muqabala’, ‘Nach Baliye 6’, and ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’.

Srivastava is the current chairman of the Film Development Council Uttar Pradesh.
