5 Travel Professions You Didn’t Know About

Are you reading this article from your cubicle in your nine-to-five job? Do you have a comfortable life with a house and a routine that many people would envy, but it isn’t right for you?

There are so many career paths and jobs that allow you to live an unconventional, exciting lifestyle and, yes, even travel for work. Becoming a flight attendant or an au pair might not be for you, but there are dozens of other travel professions to consider.

Not sure what those are? Here are some of the top travel jobs you might not know existed.

1. Virtual Assistant

Over the last couple of years, more and more people have been able to experience the benefits of remote work. You don’t only get the opportunity to work from home; you can work from anywhere!

There are tons of travel business models under the umbrella of remote work. But if copywriting or drop shipping isn’t for you, have you considered becoming a virtual assistant?

You would be a self-employed administrative, technical, or creative assistant. Your skills and qualifications depend on the field you want to work in and you could choose your own clients.

2. Travel Nursing

If you are a qualified registered nurse, you have the opportunity to work anywhere throughout the United States. Travel nurses often work three or four-month contracts in different hospitals around the country. Then, they move on to somewhere else.

If that sounds like one of the best travel professions to you, check out these recruiters:

There are travel jobs for other health care professionals, too.

3. Geologist or Archaeologist

If you want to go to college and are struggling to decide what to study, choose a career in STEM that is both rewarding and allows you to travel.

Geologists and archaeologists all travel for short-term projects and digs. One month you could be in Peru and the next you could be in Saudi Arabia!

4. Entertainer

Are you a trained singer, dancer, or actor? Or are you a magician or circus performer? You could find a job as an entertainer on a cruise ship or kid’s club.

There are tons of resorts around the world that hire top-class entertainers, too.

5. Adventure Sport Instructor

Skilled adventure or extreme sports instructors are hard to find, which is why so many companies hire from overseas. If you can teach or lead groups in the following sports, there are international jobs for you:

  • Skiing and snowboarding
  • White water rafting
  • Rock climbing and bouldering

Head to Italy, Austria, and Canada for ski jobs. South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand hire a lot of adventure instructors from overseas, too.

Which Travel Professions Are Right for You?

So, you might not have the qualifications or desire to be a pilot, tour guide, or travel writer. Lucky for you, there are so many different travel professions to choose from. With a little research, you are sure to find the right fit for you.
